AN ACT TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 50-13-235 SO AS TO PROHIBIT THE TAKING OR POSSESSION OF STRIPED BASS (ROCKFISH) LESS THAN EIGHTEEN INCHES IN LENGTH IN LAKES MARION AND MOULTRIE, THE CONGAREE RIVER, THE WATEREE RIVER NORTHWARD TO THE LAKE WATEREE DAM, THE SALUDA RIVER NORTHWARD TO THE LAKE MURRAY DAM AND THE SANTEE RIVER SOUTHWARD TO THE SALTWATER-FRESHWATER DIVIDING LINE, AND TO AMEND SECTION 50-13-1192, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO DEVICES AND THE NUMBER OF THEM WHICH MAY BE USED IN LAKES AND STREAMS, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A MAXIMUM OF FIFTY HOOP NETS MAY BE USED IN THE GREAT PEE DEE RIVER NORTH OF S.C. 34 ONLY FOR COMMERCIAL LICENSEES.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Unlawful ti take rock fish under certain conditions
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 50-13-235. It is unlawful to take or possess striped bass (rockfish) less than eighteen inches in Lakes Marion and Moultrie, the Congaree River, the Wateree River northward to the Lake Wateree Dam, the Saluda River northward to the Lake Murray Dam and the Santee River southward to the saltwater-freshwater dividing line."
Devices for taking fish
SECTION 2. Section 50-13-1192 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Section 9 of Act 461 of 1982, is further amended by adding after:
"Great Pee Dee River: Includes the waters from I-95 to
North Carolina state line
Traps Maximum fifty allowed with
commercial license
Trotlines Maximum two thousand hooks with
commercial license
Gill nets Nongame nets allowed in season
Set hooks Fifty maximum per license holder"
the following:
"Hoop nets Maximum fifty with commercial
license (north of S.C. 34 only)."
Time effective
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor.
