RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING DR. JOHN FRANK BAKER OF SUMTER COUNTY FOR HIS DEDICATED AND EXCELLENT SERVICE AS SUPERINTENDENT OF SUMTER SCHOOL DISTRICT 2.
Whereas, Dr. John Frank Baker has spent nearly all of his life working in Sumter School District 2 as student, teacher, administrator, and superintendent; and
Whereas, he began working as a teacher of psychology and social science in 1971 at Hillcrest High School (from which he graduated in 1967), and he continued to climb the ranks within the school district as a guidance counselor, curriculum coordinator, director of the Academic Center at USC-Sumter, and director of personnel; and
Whereas, after the death of Superintendent Dr. Joseph Lefft in April, 1992, Dr. Baker was appointed interim superintendent, and, later that year, he was appointed superintendent for the school district; and
Whereas, in 1992, Dr. Baker was instrumental in establishing the first countywide alternative school, PAL Academy, which has experienced tremendous success during its first year; and
Whereas, he is tremendously talented, dedicated, and energetic and is hailed as a man of vision; he is able to look into the future and comprehend educational needs and directions, and he is able to give practical effect to what he sees; and
Whereas, his accomplishments, achievements, and contributions in education as superintendent and throughout his whole distinguished career have endeared him to countless individuals and have won him the respect, admiration, and affection of all who have known him. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes and commends Dr. John Frank Baker of Sumter County for his dedicated and excellent service as Superintendent of Sumter School District 2.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Baker.
