COMMENDING MARGARET GRIER OF GREENVILLE COUNTY FOR HER MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO EDUCATION AND WISHING HER HAPPINESS IN HER RETIREMENT.
Whereas, Margaret Grier of Greenville County has devoted fifty-one years of her life in service to education, specifically: one year as seventh grade teacher at Dunbar Junior High School in Greer; eighteen years as sixth grade teacher at Gower Elementary School in Greenville; twelve years as principal of Laurel Creek Elementary School in Greenville; twelve years as principal of West Greenville Elementary School in Greenville; five years as the director of the West Greenville Child Development Center in Greenville; and three years as principal of Sirrine Elementary School in Greenville; and
Whereas, Ms. Grier has had a perfect attendance record in her professional capacity for forty-one consecutive years (1952-93); and
Whereas, she has been a genuine role model in education, making numerous contributions such as organizing the adult program in the Laurel Creek community, serving as a model teacher at Gower Elementary School for teachers in the school district to observe, being the first to start "in school suspension" in the school district at West Greenville Elementary School, and starting the After School Homework and Tutorial Program at Sirrine Elementary School; and
Whereas, she is retiring this year after fifty-one magnificent years of devotion to education and shaping and guiding the lives of the children of our State in a most positive way;
Whereas, she is an exceptional educator who is admired and loved by all who have known her, and the people of the State of South Carolina have been truly fortunate to have been the beneficiaries of her learning, her talents, her devotion, and her generous spirit. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, commends Margaret Grier of Greenville County for her many years of outstanding and dedicated service to education and wishes her happiness in her retirement.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Grier at Sirrine Elementary School, 301 E. Dorchester Boulevard, Greenville, 29605-2400.
