TO AMEND SECTION 57-1-330, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO ELECTION OF MEMBERS TO THE COMMISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE MEMBERS MUST BE ELECTED FROM CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS IN EFFECT JULY 1, 1992, UNTIL THE FEBRUARY FIFTEENTH FOLLOWING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AND TO PROVIDE FOR STAGGERED TERMS FOR THE MEMBERS FROM THE NEW DISTRICTS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 57-1-330 of the 1976 Code, as added by Act 181 of 1993 is amended by adding at the end:
"(D) The members of the commission elected from congressional districts pursuant to subsection (A) must be chosen from the congressional districts in effect on July 1, 1992, until the first February fifteenth after the General Assembly establishes by act new congressional districts at which time initial terms of commission members from new congressional districts are:
(1) commission members appointed to represent odd-numbered congressional districts: four years;
(2) commission members appointed to represent even-numbered congressional districts: two years."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
