TO DIRECT THE STATE HOUSE COMMITTEE TO PROVIDE FOR PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATION OF ALL PAINTINGS AND PORTRAITS DISPLAYED IN THE STATE HOUSE UPON THEIR REMOVAL DURING THE STATE HOUSE RENOVATION PROJECT FOR THE PURPOSE OF DETERMINING A NEED FOR RESTORATION OR OTHER REPAIRS OF THESE PAINTINGS AND THEIR FRAMES, TO PROVIDE FOR THE EXPENSES OF THE EXAMINATION TO BE PAID FROM THE APPROVED ACCOUNTS OF BOTH HOUSES, AND TO REQUIRE THE STATE HOUSE COMMITTEE TO REPORT THE RESULTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS OF THESE EXAMINATIONS TO THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.
Whereas, numerous paintings and portraits are displayed in the State House; and
Whereas, these paintings and portraits must be removed and stored for the duration of the State House renovation project, thus presenting an opportunity for their examination by professionals able to advise as to those paintings needing restoration or repairs. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the State House Committee is directed to provide for professional examination of all paintings and portraits and their frames displayed in the State House upon their removal during the State House renovation project for the purpose of determining those which need restoration or repair and to obtain estimates of the costs of this work.
Be it further resolved that the expenses of the examination must be paid from the approved accounts of both houses.
Be it further resolved that the examination and any restoration or repair estimates be reported to the General Assembly no later than July 1, 1996.
