TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 10-1-181 SO AS TO PROHIBIT THE NAMING OF PUBLIC PROPERTY PURCHASED OR CONSTRUCTED WITH STATE FUNDS OR OWNED BY THE STATE FOR A LIVING PERSON OR A PERSON WHO HAS BEEN DECEASED FOR LESS THAN ONE YEAR.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Chapter 1, Title 10 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 10-1-181. After June 30, 1997, no public property including, but not limited to, a park, bridge, highway, building, a part thereof, or an addition to any of them, purchased or constructed with state funds or otherwise acquired or owned by this State, may be named for a living person or a person who has been deceased for less than one year."
SECTION 2. The provisions of Section 1 of this act do not apply to naming a structure for a person deceased for less than one year on the effective date of this act.
SECTION 3. This act takes effect July 1, 1997.
