EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AT THE DEATH OF EUGENE S. N. LAWRIMORE OF GEORGETOWN COUNTY, AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS.
Whereas, well-known Georgetown businessman, lawyer, educator, historian, and civic leader, Eugene S. N. Lawrimore, died April 16, 1997, at the age of forty-nine; and
Whereas, Gene Lawrimore was born in Conway and was a 1965 graduate of Winyah High School; he graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1969 with a B.S.B.A. Degree in banking, finance, insurance, and real estate; he was a member of the first class of the University of South Carolina Honors Program and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity; and
Whereas, he received his law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1976 and subsequently practiced law in Georgetown as a partner in the firm of Lawrimore, Rubillo and Lumpkin and later as a partner in the firm of Adams, Quackenbush, Herring and Stuart; in 1991, he became general counsel and secretary of Timberland Properties, Inc., of Myrtle Beach, a position he held until his death; and
Whereas, he was appointed by Governor Campbell in 1987 to a five-year term on the State Development Board; Mr. Lawrimore served as vice-chairman of the S.C. Base Development Commission from 1991 to 1992; he was chairman of the Governor's Task Force to save Myrtle Beach Air Force Base from 1990 to 1991; and, at the time of his death, he was a member of the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base Redevelopment Commission and a director of the Georgetown County Development Corporation; and
Whereas, Gene Lawrimore was known, respected, admired, and loved across the Palmetto State; he was an excellent lawyer and gave countless hours to his church and his community in many ways; he meant much to Georgetown County, and his presence will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express sorrow at the death of Eugene S. N. Lawrimore of Georgetown County and extend sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Lawrimore's family.
