A BILL

TO AMEND TITLE 40, CHAPTER 1, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO LICENSING OF PROFESSIONS AND OCCUPATIONS, BY ADDING SECTION 40-1-400 SO AS TO REQUIRE THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, LICENSING AND REGULATION TO VERIFY WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE THAT A LICENSE APPLICANT HAS PAID ALL TAXES AND IS IN COMPLIANCE OTHERWISE WITH THIS STATE'S TAX LAWS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. Chapter 1, Title 40 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 40-1-400. Before issuing a license for a person to engage in a profession or occupation regulated by it, the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation shall verify with the South Carolina Department of Revenue that the person has paid all taxes and is in compliance otherwise with the tax laws administered by the Department of Revenue. The Department of Revenue shall issue written notice of noncompliance."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
