A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 23-1-225 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER SHALL ESTABLISH DRIVER'S LICENSE OR MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION CHECKPOINTS ONLY AT SAFE LOCATIONS AND DURING NONRUSH HOUR PERIODS.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 23-1-225. Notwithstanding another provision of law, a law enforcement officer shall establish driver's license or motor vehicle registration checkpoints only at safe locations and only during nonrush hour periods."

SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
