TO APPROVE REGULATIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOR, LICENSING AND REGULATION, BOARD OF EXAMINERS IN SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY AND AUDIOLOGY, RELATING TO GENERAL LICENSING PROVISIONS; PATHOLOGY ASSISTANTS; SUPERVISED PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYMENT; AUDIOLOGY LICENSE-HEARING AID DISPENSING; CONTINUING EDUCATION, CODE OF ETHICS, DESIGNATED AS REGULATION DOCUMENT NUMBER 2270, PURSUANT TO THE PROVISIONS OF ARTICLE 1, CHAPTER 23, TITLE 1 OF THE 1976 CODE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The regulations of the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, relating to general licensing provisions; pathology assistants; supervised professional employment; audiology license - hearing aid dispensing; continuing education, code of ethics, designated as Regulation Document Number 2270, and submitted to the General Assembly pursuant to the provisions of Article 1, Chapter 23, Title 1 of the 1976 Code, are approved.
SECTION 2. This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
SUMMARY AS SUBMITTED BY PROMULGATING AGENCY.
This regulation allows the board to effectively regulate and monitor those persons who may be practicing as speech-language pathologists, audiologists, speech-language pathology interns, audiology interns, speech-language pathology assistants, or audiologists who are dispensing hearing aids, without being licensed. It also amends requirements for licensure as an intern, establishes guidelines for continued education now authorized by statute and updates the current code of ethics.
