TO REQUEST THAT THE S.C. FORESTRY COMMISSION COMPLEX IN DARLINGTON COUNTY BE NAMED IN HONOR OF GARY H. SLAVENS.
Whereas, Mr. Gary H. Slavens exemplifies the essence of the limitless entrepreneurial talent and human resources available in the State of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Mr. Slavens received his Associate of Arts degree from Presbyterian Junior College in 1961; and
Whereas, Mr. Slavens has been a positive force on both the state and national political horizons; and
Whereas, Mr. Slavens has tirelessly and selflessly given of his enormous talents and political acumen for the betterment of state and national government; and
Whereas, Mr. Slavens has been an astute businessman currently serving as owner and operator of McWhite Plantation, a 400-acre tobacco farm, and formerly serving as President of Color Graphics, Inc.; and
Whereas, Mr. Slavens has a proven successful track record of managing and organizing political campaigns by maximizing effectiveness of fixed political budgets; and
Whereas, Mr. Slavens' national political accomplishments include, but are not limited to, serving as Campaign Manager and later Executive Assistant to the Honorable Robin Tallon; serving as Executive Director of the Southeastern Federal Regional Council under a presidential appointment of President Ronald Reagan; and serving as Chief Campaign Strategist and Advisor to the Honorable John Napier; and
Whereas, Mr. Slavens served as a member of the South Carolina Forestry Commission under appointment of Governor James B. Edwards. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the General Assembly of South Carolina, by this resolution, requests that the S.C. Forestry Commission Complex in Darlington County be named in honor of Gary H. Slavens in recognition of his many contributions to the state and national government.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Gary H. Slavens.
