The Senate assembled at 11:00 A.M., the hour to which it stood adjourned, and was called to order by the PRESIDENT.
A quorum being present, the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:

Beloved, in 1864, Samuel Longfellow prayed these words:
"Holy Spirit, Truth divine,
Dawn upon this soul of mine;
Word of God, and inward Light,
Wake my spirit, clear my sight."
Let us pray.
Holy and Eternal God: Your Providence covers us from generation to generation.
Grant that the words of Longfellow's Song of the Soul, sung and prayed during dark days more than a century ago, may awaken us to the true values that are at stake in decision-making assemblies of the world!!!
Refresh us anew this day with such resources of the Spirit that we do not become weary before our work is done, nor become discouraged when we think our tasks are too difficult.
Help us to triumph over "the strain of toil, the fret of care"... as we participate in every effort to bring in the Kingdom whose maker and ruler is God!
Amen.
