To whom was referred a Bill (S. 938), to amend the Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976, by adding Section 23-1-220 so as to require local law enforcement agencies to assist the State Highway Patrol, etc., respectfully
That they have duly and carefully considered the same, and recommend that the same do pass with amendment:
Amend the bill, as and if amended, by striking all after the enacting words and inserting therein the following:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 23-1-230. When the Governor declares a state of emergency, the local law enforcement agency in a municipality or county through which an interstate highway, designated evacuation route, or other roadway passes shall assist, under the direction of the Department of Public Safety with monitoring and directing the flow of traffic on that portion of the interstate highway, designated evacuation route, or other roadway that passes through the municipality or county."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor. /

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 23-1-220 SO AS TO REQUIRE LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES TO ASSIST THE STATE HIGHWAY PATROL IN MONITORING AND DIRECTING TRAFFIC ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS THAT PASS THROUGH THEIR RESPECTIVE JURISDICTIONS WHERE A STATE OF EMERGENCY HAS BEEN DECLARED BY THE GOVERNOR.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 23-1-220. Upon the Governor declaring a state of emergency, the local law enforcement agency in a municipality or county through which an interstate highway passes shall assist, under the direction of, the State Highway Patrol with monitoring and directing the flow of traffic on that portion of the interstate highway that passes through the municipality or county."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
