TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-101-175 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT ANY PUBLIC OR INDEPENDENT INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING IN THIS STATE THAT ACCEPTS TUITION-GRANTS, LIFE SCHOLARSHIPS, OR PALMETTO FELLOWS SCHOLARSHIPS OR ADMITS STUDENTS WHO APPLY THESE GRANTS OR SCHOLARSHIPS TOWARD THEIR TUITION EXPENSES MAY PROVIDE INSURANCE BENEFITS ONLY TO ELIGIBLE EMPLOYEES AND MEMBERS OF THEIR IMMEDIATE FAMILY WHO QUALIFY FOR SUCH COVERAGE.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. The 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 59-101-175. Any public or independent institution of higher learning in this State that accepts tuition-grants, LIFE Scholarships, or Palmetto Fellows Scholarships or admits students who apply these grants or scholarships toward their tuition expenses may provide insurance benefits only to eligible employees and members of their immediate family who qualify for such coverage."
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
