EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE IN THE FIELD OF PUBLIC EDUCATION OF ANNE HIGHTOWER-PATTERSON OF COLUMBIA, PRINCIPAL OF CRAYTON MIDDLE SCHOOL IN RICHLAND SCHOOL DISTRICT ONE, ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AND WISHING FOR HER SUCCESS, HEALTH, AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have learned that Anne Hightower-Patterson of Columbia, the Principal of Crayton Middle School in Richland County School District One, will be retiring at the end of the 2001-2002 school year; and
Whereas, she began her career at Kingstree Senior High School in Williamsburg County, moving to the schools of Richland County School District One in 1980 first as counselor, then as an administrative apprentice followed by a tour of assistant principalship, culminating in her appointment in 1998 to her current position; and
Whereas, in that career, she has shown her devotion to the cause of public education by her active participation in the South Carolina Education Association, as past secretary and member of the organization board of directors, and her membership in the South Carolina Art Education Association, Richland County Education Association, National Education Association, South Carolina Middle School Association, and the National Middle School Association; and
Whereas, outside of her career in education she has been a leader in her church, community, and in the artistic community, and the recipient of many coveted awards, by her past presidency and service as a member of the congregational council of Christ the King Lutheran Church, her service as Vice President and Past Treasurer of the Southern Water Color Society, as a member of the board of directors of the South Carolina Water Color Society, and her membership in the Beta Sigma Phi International Women's Society; and
Whereas, her achievements in her chosen career have been recognized by her colleagues, by means of many coveted awards, including the SCEA Walker E. Solomon Human Relations Award in 1985, SCEA Award of Instructional Excellence, in 1978, her recognition as South Carolina's Outstanding Young Woman in 1983, and as a recipient of the Beta Sigma Phi South Carolina Alpha Omega Award in 1994; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to pause in their deliberations to acknowledge this milestone in the life of so distinguished and accomplished a South Carolinian. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express their appreciation for the distinguished service in the field of public education of Anne Hightower-Patterson of Columbia, principal of Crayton Middle School in Richland School District One, on the occasion of her retirement and wishing for her success, health, and happiness in all her future endeavors
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Anne Hightower-Patterson.
