THE COMMITTEE ON CORRECTIONS AND PENOLOGY

    To whom was referred a Joint Resolution (S. 826) to amend Joint Resolution 420 of 2000, as amended, relating to the creation of a Local Jail Task Force to identify and study the problems confronting local jails, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

    That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass with amendment:

    Amend the joint resolution, as and if amended, in Section 1(C) of Joint Resolution 420 of 2000, as contained in Section 1, by striking the paragraph which begins on line 31, page 1, and inserting:

    /    A person appointed to the Local Jail Task Force before February 1, 2001, shall remain on the task force, unless he resigns or is replaced by the original appointing authority. /

    Renumber sections to conform.

    Amend title to conform.

A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO AMEND JOINT RESOLUTION 420 OF 2000, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE CREATION OF A LOCAL JAIL TASK FORCE TO IDENTIFY AND STUDY THE PROBLEMS CONFRONTING LOCAL JAILS, THE TASK FORCE MEMBERSHIP, AND THE ISSUANCE OF A REPORT BY THE TASK FORCE, SO AS TO EXTEND THE LIFE OF THE TASK FORCE TO FEBRUARY 1, 2003, BEFORE WHICH DATE IT MUST MAKE ITS REPORT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 1(C) of Joint Resolution 420 of 2000, as amended by Joint Resolution 122 of 2001, is further amended to read:

    "(C)    The Local Jail Task Force shall submit a report with recommendations to the Governor and the General Assembly before February 1, 2002 2003, at which time the task force is abolished.

    A person appointed to the Local Jail Task Force before February 1, 2001, shall remain on the task force."

SECTION    2.    This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
