The Senate assembled at 11:00 A.M., the hour to which it stood adjourned, and was called to order by the ACTING PRESIDENT, Senator PATTERSON.

MOTION ADOPTED

On motion of Senators HUTTO and MATTHEWS, with unanimous consent, the Senate stood adjourned out of respect to the memory of the Honorable Martin Cheatham, Jr., revered Mayor of the City of Orangeburg, S.C., for twelve years, who passed away after an extended illness. During his tenure as mayor, he initiated many changes that have improved the quality of life for the citizens of the City of Orangeburg, including efforts to renovate Stevenson Auditorium, restore and maintain the historically black Orangeburg cemetery, secure funding for a new runway at the Municipal Airport and improve Edisto Memorial Gardens. Mayor Cheatham established the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast and the Mayor's Cup Golf Tournament. He will be missed by not only his family and friends but by all the citizens of Orangeburg.

ADJOURNMENT

At 11:10 A.M., on motion of Senator BAUER, the Senate adjourned to meet next Tuesday, March 20, 2001, at 12:00 Noon.
