South Carolina General Assembly
114th Session, 2001-2002
Journal of the Senate

Wednesday, March 27, 2002
(Statewide Session)

Indicates Matter Stricken
Indicates New Matter

The Senate assembled at 2:00 P.M., the hour to which it stood adjourned, and was called to order by the PRESIDENT Pro Tempore.

A quorum being present, the proceedings were opened with a devotion by the Chaplain as follows:

Beloved, hear St. John, exiled on the Isle of Patmos, in crisis times. Chapter 21:1:

"Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth;

for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away,

and the sea was no more."
Let us pray.

Our Father, our country has been thrust into a war, the end of which no member of the human race can see.

Give us the vision of St. John that by the grace of God all things will become "new," and the separating sea becomes a metaphor for an exiled man signifying home, family, loved ones.

Lift up our hearts with such a vision!
Amen.

The PRESIDENT called for Petitions, Memorials, Presentments of Grand Juries and such like papers.
