AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 40-71-10, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO MEMBERS OF CERTAIN PROFESSIONAL SOCIETIES WHO ARE EXEMPT FROM TORT LIABILITY, SO AS TO REVISE THE DEFINITION OF PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY TO INCLUDE THE SOUTH CAROLINA LAW ENFORCEMENT ACCREDITATION COUNCIL.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Definition revised
SECTION 1. Section 40-71-10(A) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 158 of 1989, is further amended to read:
"(A) 'Professional society' as used in this chapter includes legal, medical, osteopathic, optometric, chiropractic, psychological, dental, accounting, pharmaceutic, and engineering organizations having as members at least a majority of the eligible licentiates in the area served by the particular society and any foundations composed of members of these societies. It also includes the South Carolina Law Enforcement Accreditation Council."
Time effective
SECTION 2. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
Ratified the 3rd day of June, 2004.
Approved the 16th day of August, 2004.
