A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 59-149-60, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO DURATION OF A SCHOLARSHIP, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A STUDENT MAY RECEIVE A FIFTH YEAR OF SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY IF HE IS ENROLLED IN AN APPROVED FIVE-YEAR BACHELORS DEGREE PROGRAM OR A FIVE-YEAR PROGRAM WHERE THE FIRST DEGREE AWARDED IS A MASTERS DEGREE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 59-149-60 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 59-149-60.    (A)    The student may receive a LIFE Scholarship for not more than ten semesters for a five-year degree program, eight semesters for a four-year degree program, or four semesters for a two-year degree program.

(B)    Notwithstanding subsection (A), a student may receive a fifth year of scholarship eligibility if he is enrolled in an approved five-year bachelors degree program or a five-year program where the first degree awarded is a masters degree."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
