VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE THE BYRNES HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM ON ITS MOST IMPRESSIVE FOURTH CONSECUTIVE CLASS AAAA DIVISION II STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACH, BOBBY BENTLEY, ON AN INCREDIBLE SEASON.
Whereas, excelling in football requires speed, strength, dedication, determination, and concentration, as well as discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship; and
Whereas, using those talents and attributes, Coach Bobby Bentley and the members of the Byrnes "Rebels" Varsity Football Team compiled a flawless season capped off by a state championship; and
Whereas, arguably the greatest senior class in history to play football for the Rebels finished their high school careers with an undefeated 32-0 record at home and losing only two games during their time on the varsity squad; and
Whereas, soundly defeating Richland Northeast High School fifty-one to eight in the state championship game, the Rebels left no doubt why their offense was ranked number one in the State throughout the entire season; and
Whereas, Byrnes began its scoring over Richland Northeast early in the first quarter, overcoming a fourth-and-eight from its own forty-seven yard line with a nine yard run by Prince Miller off a punt fake to get the first down; and
Whereas, from there the Rebels used a powerful offense and a tough defense to overwhelm the Cavaliers which is also one of South Carolina's best prep teams; and
Whereas, to win four consecutive state titles is an accomplishment which will be remembered by the Byrnes players, coaches, staff, and fans for the rest of their lives; and
Whereas, the members of the Senate take great pride in honoring and commending this outstanding group of athletes and their fine coaching staff on achieving such a great accomplishment and winning a state championship for Byrnes High School for a fourth consecutive year. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Byrnes High School Varsity Football Team on its most impressive fourth consecutive Class AAAA Division II State Championship and honor the players and their coach, Bobby Bentley, on an incredible season.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Coach Bentley.
