VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO HONOR ETHELINE P. WASHINGTON OF BERKELEY COUNTY FOR HER LAUDABLE CONTRIBUTIONS AND SINCERE DEVOTION TO PUBLIC EDUCATION IN SOUTH CAROLINA FOR OVER FORTY YEARS AND TO COMMEND HER FOR HER LIFELONG COMMITMENT TO HER FAMILY, CHURCH, AND COMMUNITY.
Whereas, Mrs. Etheline Washington was born September 8, 1916, the beloved daughter of Abraham and Victoria Williams Prioleau; and
Whereas, she first learned the fundamentals of education at J.K. Gourdin School and later at Avery Institute. She went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts from Morris College in 1949 and furthered her studies at South Carolina State College and the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, Mrs. Washington graciously taught elementary and high school English as well as coached girls basketball in the Berkeley County School District for forty years from 1941-1981; and
Whereas, Mrs. Washington is firmly committed to her family as she and her husband, Frank Washington, have raised two wonderful children, Truman T. Washington (Bertha) and Vera G. Latham; and
Whereas, she has been devout in her faith since she was baptized at Day Dawn Baptist Church as a child and has lived her entire life ever since exemplifying that faith as a member of Hickory Hill Baptist Church where she has served as President of the Missionary Society, President of the Pulpit Aide, Vacation Bible School teacher, and Sunday School teacher; and
Whereas, she actively serves her community as a member of the American Legion Auxillary, Home Mission Society, and Secretary of St. John Chapter #213 Order of the Eastern Star for thirty-nine years; and
Whereas, Mrs. Etheline Washington is a gracious lady whose life has been committed to her family, church, and community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor Mrs. Etheline P. Washington of Berkeley County for her contributions and sincere devotion to public education in South Carolina for over forty years and commend her for her lifelong commitment to her family, church, and community.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Etheline P. Washington.
