TO CONGRATULATE MRS. LOUISE GRIFFEN GARRIS OF WILLIAMS ON THE OCCASION OF HER NINETY-THIRD BIRTHDAY ON MAY 26, 2006, AND TO WISH HER A MAGNIFICENT CELEBRATION AS WELL AS MANY MORE YEARS OF HAPPINESS AND JOY.
Whereas, Mrs. Louise Griffen Garris, the strong family matriarch of the Garris family was born May 26, 1913, in Williams, the daughter of the late Lovic Pierce Griffen and Laura Julia McMillan; and
Whereas, Mrs. Garris shared a loving marriage with the late Daniel W. Garris, Sr., and she remembers that when courting, her future husband would often ride a mule to come visit her; and
Whereas, the couple was blessed with three children, Daniel W. Garris, Jr., Lawrence P. Garris, and Julian T. Garris. Mrs. Garris also boasts four grandchildren, Nicole D. Garris, Daniel W. Garris III, Julie L. Garris, and April R. Garris, and a great-grandchild, E. Patrick Lozada III; and
Whereas, a longtime member of Marion Baptist Church, Mrs. Garris is involved in many church activities and also is an avid garden club member; and
Whereas, Mrs. Garris began a female family tradition of postal employment when she became Postmaster in Williams. Since then, a daughter-in-law and granddaughter both have followed in her footsteps; and
Whereas, Mrs. Garris is a premier entertainer and cook and has been praised for her renowned pound cake. She still lives in the family home, built in 1902, where she loves to have friends and family visit; and
Whereas, with a sharp and long memory, Mrs. Garris tells stories of times past, during the era of the horse and buggy. She remembers learning firsthand how rural electrification eased the burden of families facing almost endless farm and household chores; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pride in celebrating the birthday of such an outstanding woman who has taught so many the important life lessons she has experienced throughout her tenure in this world and continues to remind everyone how special life can be. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Louise Griffen Garris of Williams on the occasion of her ninety-third birthday on May 26, 2006, and wish her a magnificent celebration as well as many more years of happiness and joy.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Louise Griffen Garris of Williams.
