VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY FOR THE OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE OF MR. STACEY GRIFFIN, OF DILLON COUNTY, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS AND FULFILLMENT IN THE YEARS TO COME.
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the General Assembly recognizes individuals who are dedicated to giving their time and energy to community service; and
Whereas, Mr. Stacey Griffin, one of Dillon County's most progressive and visionary leaders in his vocation, as well as in his church, family, and community endeavors, has contributed untold hours of valuable volunteer service to his hometown, county, and State and is thereby worthy of praise; and
Whereas, born on March 13, 1928, Stacey Griffin graduated with honors from Dillon High School, where he was captain of the football and baseball teams. After graduation from high school, the young Stacey played professional baseball for the Detroit Tigers from 1948 to 1949; and
Whereas, a graduate of the Command General and Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas, Stacey Griffin served his country with distinction as a battalion commander for the 1st 263rd Armored Battalion of the South Carolina Army National Guard. In 1984, he retired from SCARNG with the rank of brigadier general after thirty-four years of service. As a result of his outstanding leadership and dedicated labor in the guard, he was inducted into the South Carolina National Guard Hall of Fame as a charter member; and
Whereas, believing that a man should be involved in the life of his community and State, throughout his life Stacey Griffin has lived out his beliefs, dedicating his time and talents to a variety of causes and organizations; and
Whereas, he served the State of South Carolina and Dillon County, representing the Fourth Judicial Circuit as a member of the State Development Board from 1988 to 1992, steering key business to Dillon County to stimulate economic development; and
Whereas, as chairman of the Dillon County Transportation Committee since 1994, Stacey Griffin has helped make Dillon County a better place to live; and
Whereas, he was a dedicated employee of Carolina Power & Light Company, working for forty years as a line and service supervisor, serving the many fine citizens of Dillon County; and
Whereas, an active member of Dillon First Baptist Church, he has served as a deacon and president of the Brotherhood; and
Whereas, Mr. Griffin received numerous honors, awards, and recognitions as a former member of the Dillon Kiwanis Club and as a current member of the Dillon Lions Club, and a portion of South Carolina Highway 301 North in Dillon County was named after him to honor his volunteer, church, and civic service; and
Whereas, married to Sylvia Scott Griffin for fifty-six years, Stacey Griffin and his beloved wife together raised two fine sons, Scotty and Tracey; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly are proud to recognize the accomplishments of Mr. Stacey Griffin and, on behalf of the citizens of South Carolina, thank him for a lifetime of selfless service for others. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, express their appreciation for the outstanding community service of Mr. Stacey Griffin, of Dillon County, and wish him much success and fulfillment in the years to come.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Stacey Griffin and The Dillon Herald.
