A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-18-325 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT ANY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT IN THE ELEVENTH OR TWELFTH GRADE WHO WAS NOT A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT IN THIS STATE IN ANY PORTION OF THE TENTH GRADE IS NOT REQUIRED TO TAKE THE STATE EXIT EXAMINATION REQUIRED TO BE ADMINISTERED AT THE END OF A STUDENT'S SECOND YEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL IF HE HAS ACCRUED AT LEAST ONE THOUSAND OR MORE ON THE SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST (SAT) OR MADE AN EQUIVALENT SCORE ON THE ACT AS DETERMINED BY THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 18, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-18-325.    Any high school student in the eleventh or twelfth grade who was not a high school student in this State in any portion of the tenth grade is not required to take the state exit examination required to be administered at the end of a student's second year in high school if he has accrued at least one thousand or more on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or made an equivalent score on the ACT as determined by the State Department of Education."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
