VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR HUGH SMITH, SUPERINTENDENT OF ANDERSON SCHOOL DISTRICT 3, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER THIRTY-FOUR YEARS IN EDUCATION AND TO WISH HIM SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives take great pleasure in recognizing the dedicated work of South Carolina educators such as Hugh Smith and the commitment and enthusiasm he brings to the students of his district; and
Whereas, thirty-four years ago, Hugh Smith started his rewarding career with Iva-based Anderson School District 3 as a sixth-grade English teacher at Starr-Iva Middle School, where he taught the terrors of the comma splice and run-on sentence for ten years; and
Whereas, he began his role as an administrator serving as Starr-Iva Middle School's assistant principal for five years and then served as principal of Starr Elementary for another ten and a half years; and
Whereas, in December 2001, the current superintendent resigned, and Hugh Smith stepped in to lead the district ably in the middle of a large building program, and he has now completed another building program for the district; and
Whereas, in his role as superintendent, he oversees five schools and a total student population of two thousand six hundred fifteen, over three hundred fifty employees, and a budget of some seventeen million dollars; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are grateful for the leadership that Hugh Smith has brought to Anderson School District 3 and for his role as a forward-looking educator of the state's children. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Hugh Smith, superintendent of Anderson School District 3, upon the occasion of his retirement after thirty-four years in education and wish him success and happiness in all his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Hugh Smith.
