A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 23-1-240 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER MUST WEAR AN OFFICIAL BADGE ISSUED BY THE AGENCY IN WHICH HE IS EMPLOYED AT ALL TIMES WHILE ON DUTY EXCEPT WHEN HE IS PERFORMING UNDERCOVER LAW ENFORCEMENT DUTIES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 1, Title 23 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 23-1-240.    A law enforcement officer must wear an official badge issued by the agency in which he is employed at all times while on duty, except when he is performing undercover law enforcement duties."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
