A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE PASSING OF DEVIN MICHAEL ROACH OF JASPER COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the sudden and untimely death of Devin Michael Roach of Ridgeland on April 23, 2011, at the age of twenty-one; and

Whereas, born in Hilton Head Island on August 29, 1989, Devin Michael Roach was the beloved son of Derrick Bryan and Bonnie Scoggins Roach; and

Whereas, Devin, as he was known, loved baseball and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ridgeland Ward; and

Whereas, he graduated from Thomas Heyward Academy in 2008, where he was an outfielder on the school's baseball team; and

Whereas, prior to his passing, the Ridgeland youth was a locksmith for Areawide Lock and Key on Hilton Head Island; and

Whereas, in addition to his parents, Devin leaves to cherish his memory his devoted sister, Krystal Roach; his grandparents, Connie Benton, Gene Scoggins, and Elyse Roach Burnsed; his great-grandmothers, Lizzie Bell Roach Woods and Inez Sauls Scoggins, all of Ridgeland; and

Whereas, always smiling and ready to help, Devin was a special young man and dear to both family and friends. He will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Devin Michael Roach of Jasper County, and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Mr. and Mrs. Derrick Bryan Roach for the family.
