A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE WILSON HALL VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2013 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Wilson Hall softball team of Sumter County took top honors at the state competition on May 14, 2013; and

Whereas, after a tremendous effort by the Wilson Hall Lady Baron softball team, fans were delighted with the team's two-game shutout win in the best two-out-of-three series over Orangeburg Preparatory School; and

Whereas, Lady Baron sophomore Holly Scott took the mound in both games of the championship series and pitched a 6-0 shutout in the first game and 3-0 in the second to take the school's first state title since 1975; and

Whereas, in spite of losing a number of standout players in the 2012 graduating class, Wilson Hall still had a number of talented softball players on the 2013 team, each one integral to the success of the team; and

Whereas, although the Lady Barons suffered some losses early in the season to teams that they had defeated in the past, they still managed to finish the season with a strong 23-6 record; and

Whereas, after spring break, Head Coach Teresa Alexander moved Hannah Jordan to shortstop where she led the team with confidence, allowing Wilson Hall to adjust other players to positions that greatly improved their defense; and

Whereas, in a sport that demands strength, strategy, and quickness, Coach Alexander and her skilled coaching staff capitalized on their own athletic ability and training to forge a championship team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the diamond; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciate the pride and recognition that the Wilson Hall softball players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued accomplishments in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Wilson Hall varsity softball team, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2013 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Fred Moulton and Coach Teresa Alexander.
