A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE DAVIS & FLOYD, INC. ON THE OCCASION OF THE SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THEIR FOUNDING, TO COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND THE SOUTHEAST, AND TO WISH THEM MUCH SUCCESS IN THEIR FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Davis & Floyd, Inc. hosted a celebration for their sixtieth anniversary on May 28, 2014 at the Columbia Museum of Art; and

Whereas, founded in Greenwood in 1954 by Emmett I. Davis and Phil Floyd, Davis & Floyd, Inc. now employs approximately two hundred of the finest engineers, architects, and scientists in the industry; and

Whereas, shortly after Mr. Davis and Mr. Floyd opened Davis & Floyd in Greenwood, they also opened an office in Atlanta, Georgia. They had a hand in developing Lenox Square in Atlanta, the railroad yard and track study in downtown Atlanta as well as the runway replacement at Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta, Georgia; and

Whereas, in 1962, Davis & Floyd opened an office in Charleston. Mr. Floyd managed this office and the North Charleston Sewer District was the branch's first client; and

Whereas, in 1979, Davis & Floyd purchased Universal Engineering located in Boston, Massachusetts. This greatly increased Davis & Floyd's presence in New England. Davis & Floyd sold the firm in 2001 to focus on working in the Southeast; and

Whereas, Davis & Floyd acquired W. Powers McElveen & Associates in 1998, which expanded their architectural presence. They opened a Greenville office in 2001 and offices in Florence and Hickory, North Carolina in 2009; and

Whereas, Davis & Floyd has won countless awards for their projects in the State of South Carolina, and across the Southeast; and

Whereas, Davis & Floyd is currently located in Greenwood, North Charleston, Florence, Columbia, Greenville, and Hickory, North Carolina, which enables them to have a significant presence throughout the Southeast; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly find it fitting to recognize a company that has had such a significant impact on the State of South Carolina and join in the celebration of this sixtieth anniversary. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate Davis & Floyd, Inc. on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of their founding, commend them for their many years of dedicated service to the State of South Carolina and the Southeast, and wish them much success in their future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Davis & Floyd, Inc.
