A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE WORK OF ELIZABETH C. TAYLOR, CHAIR, BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE DICKERSON CHILDREN'S ADVOCACY CENTER OF WEST COLUMBIA, FOR HER TIRELESS ACTIVISM ON BEHALF OF THE CENTER AND HER DEDICATION TO ENSURING THE WELL-BEING OF THE STATE'S MOST VULNERABLE CITIZENS, AND TO COMMEND HER EFFORTS ON BEHALF OF THIS CHILD ADVOCACY CENTER WHICH PROVIDES INVALUABLE SERVICES TO CHILDREN OF ABUSE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for the critical work of the child advocacy centers in this State in serving children of abuse and for South Carolina citizens like Elizabeth C. Taylor who donate their time and talents so unselfishly to these centers and their clientele; and

Whereas, the Dickerson Children's Advocacy Center is a child advocacy center that facilitates a multidisciplinary-team approach to the investigation and treatment of child abuse that serves Lexington, McCormick, Edgefield, and Saluda counties; and

Whereas, the center offers a broad spectrum of services from a professional staff, maintains the focus on child victims, and works to ensure that systems designed to protect children are able to do so more effectively; and

Whereas, child advocacy centers combine the wisdom and professional knowledge of child protective services, law enforcement, prosecution, and medical and mental health professionals to provide a more complete and effective response system; and

Whereas, the Dickerson Children's Advocacy Center provides crisis intervention and counseling, emotional support, and therapy services for victims and non-offending family members; and

Whereas, the center also provides follow-up contact with all families to ensure the ongoing health of the child and ensure that the needs of the child are being met; and

Whereas, Elizabeth C. Taylor has served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the center for the past two years and recently agreed to continue her service as the center embarks on an ambitious building campaign in order to serve greater numbers of children and their families; and

Whereas, a determined children's advocate, Mrs. Taylor has put her blood, sweat, and tears into advancing the goals of the center as it provides an incalculable service to the region it serves. Her efforts have been instrumental in moving the center forward and continuing to function as "A Place Where Healing Begins"; and

Whereas, Elizabeth C. Taylor has the heart of a true public servant and also serves as the Research Director of the South Carolina Legislative Council. Passionate about her service both to the State and to the State's children, she is an outstanding role model for all South Carolinians; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are thankful for the professional and compassionate efforts of the Dickerson Children's Advocacy Center to support and advocate for the most vulnerable citizens of our State and take great pleasure in recognizing Elizabeth C. Taylor and her tenacity in fulfilling the center's mission of "Hearing their voices - Healing their hearts." Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize the work of Elizabeth C. Taylor, Chair, Board of Directors of the Dickerson Children's Advocacy Center of West Columbia, for her tireless activism on behalf of the center and her dedication to ensuring the well-being of the State's most vulnerable citizens, and commend her efforts on behalf of this child advocacy center which provides invaluable services to children of abuse.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Elizabeth C. Taylor, Chair, Board of Directors of the Dickerson Children's Advocacy Center.
