A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE REVEREND DR. ALVIN COSTELLO ROBINSON ON HIS FORTIETH PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY AT PLEASANT GROVE MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH ON APRIL 11, 2015, AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED HAPPINESS IN HIS SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF HIS COMMUNITY.

Whereas, Reverend Dr. Alvin Costello Robinson has served as the pastor of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Marion for forty years on April 11, 2015; and

Whereas, Dr. Robinson was born in Hyman, South Carolina to the late Nathaniel and Leila Robinson. He graduated from Gibbs High School and attended Friendship Junior College, where he earned an A.A. degree, Allen University, where he earned a B.A. in social studies, Francis Marion College, where he earned a master's degree in education, Morris College, where he earned a B.D. He has also received an honorary doctorate of divinity from Morris College and a doctorate of Christian education from Cathedral Bible College. He has completed other studies at the University of South Carolina and Appalachian State University; and

Whereas, Dr. Robinson is a veteran of the United States military and was honorably discharged in 1970. He is the proud father to three children, three grandchildren, and one great grandchild; and

Whereas, prior to becoming the pastor of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Dr. Robinson faithfully ministered at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Patrick, Round-O Baptist Church in Darlington, and St. John Baptist Church in Latta; and

Whereas, under his humble leadership, Pleasant Grove has built two new sanctuaries, started forty new ministries, and doubled its membership. Dr. Robinson started the A.C. Robinson Family Resource Center and the Pleasant Grove Academy; and

Whereas, his work in the community does not go unnoticed. He helped secure a $3.6 million grant from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development for a fifty-three-unit housing project for the elderly and mildly impaired. Additionally, he secured an $800,000.00 grant for the Little Pee Dee Baptist Association from the Office of the Governor of South Carolina to be used for water and sewage services for the Little Pee Dee Manor. He also founded the Youth Department of the Chesterfield County Union; and

Whereas, when he is not preaching, teaching, or ministering to, Dr. Robinson shares his time with organizations such as the National Baptist Convention, Cathedral Bible College, the South Carolina State Baptist Church Missionary & Educational Convention, the Pee Dee Regional Council, the Little Pee Dee Manor, Inc., United Way of Marion County, Habitat for Humanity of Marion County, and many more. He is the recipient of over five hundred awards and honors; and

Whereas, Dr. Robinson has preached in many states, conducting as many as thirty-five revivals in one year. He has preached at the National Baptist Convention USA and has traveled extensively in many foreign countries, including the Holy Land, and most of the United States; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate are pleased to recognize and commend this son of South Carolina for his dedicated service to the people of this State and the members look forward to hearing of his continued success. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, congratulate the Reverend Dr. Alvin Costello Robinson on his fortieth pastoral anniversary at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church on April 11, 2015 and wish him continued happiness in his service to the people of his community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reverend Dr. Alvin Costello Robinson.
