A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE DR. HERMON GIBSON, JR., OF CLARENDON COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS SEVENTIETH BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HIM A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MUCH HAPPINESS IN THE DAYS AHEAD.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are delighted to learn that Dr. Hermon Gibson, Jr., of Clarendon County will celebrate his seventieth birthday on March 28, 2015; and

Whereas, the son of the Reverend Hermon Gibson, Sr., and Sister Mary Ann Gibson of Manning, Hermon Gibson, Jr., was born on March 28, 1945, in Clarendon County and received his early education from Manning Training School. On August 13, 1999, he received a doctorate in divinity from Rhema Seminary College of Norfolk, Virginia; and

Whereas, on September 14, 1963, Dr. Gibson was united in holy wedlock to the former Lillie Mae Thames, God blessing their union with a fine family of eight children, fifteen grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter; and

Whereas, Dr. Gibson, a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Manning, serves as moderator of the Williamsburg Association and Union #2; and

Whereas, more than forty-three years ago, Dr. Gibson began his faithful leadership of Cedar Grove, Ranzie Grove, and Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist churches. He was rightly honored as a God-sent man, one called to share the Good News of the Gospel with hope and anticipation of winning souls to Christ; and

Whereas, Dr. Gibson led the Mt. Olive church family in a progressive movement throughout forty-three years with love, support, and steadfast, sincere spirituality. Constantly preaching and teaching the Word of God with power and authority from on high, he finds his greatest scriptural inspiration in Psalm 23 and much joy in his favorite hymn, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus." He has pastored Ranzie Grove Missionary Baptist Church for forty-two years and Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Church for forty-three years; and

Whereas, many lives have been touched by Dr. Gibson's evangelistic ministry, which extends beyond South Carolina to Washington, D.C., Virginia, Maryland, and New Jersey; and

Whereas, to honor him at this very special time in his life, family and friends will join with him to celebrate his seventieth birthday on Saturday, March 14, 2015; and

Whereas, the Senate is proud to honor this son of South Carolina at the celebration of his seventieth birthday, and the members join with his family and friends in congratulating him on reaching this important life milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Dr. Hermon Gibson, Jr., of Clarendon County on the occasion of his seventieth birthday and wish him a joyous birthday celebration and much happiness in the days ahead.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Dr. Hermon Gibson, Jr.
