The House assembled at 10:00 a.m.
Deliberations were opened with prayer by Rev. Charles E. Seastrunk, Jr., as follows:

Our thought for today is from Psalm 105:1: "O give thanks to the Lord, call on his name, make known his deeds among the people."

Let us pray. We praise You, O Lord, for all the guidance You provide for these men and women as they work to obtain a better life for the citizens of this State. Continue to give these, Your People, the tools to accomplish great deeds for all people. Give them the wisdom to make the right decisions. Bless our Nation, President, State, Governor, Speaker, staff, and all who serve in this community. Protect our defenders of freedom at home and abroad as they protect us. Heal the wounds, those seen and those hidden, of our brave warriors who suffer and sacrifice for our freedom. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayers. Amen.

Pursuant to Rule 6.3, the House of Representatives was led in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America by the SPEAKER.

After corrections to the Journal of the proceedings of yesterday, the SPEAKER ordered it confirmed.

MOTION ADOPTED

Rep. ERICKSON moved that when the House adjourns, it adjourn in memory of Donald Patrick "Pat" Conroy, which was agreed to.

STATEMENT FOR THE JOURNAL

On Friday, March 4th, 2016, a treasured Beaufort County citizen, Mr. Pat Conroy, beloved husband of Cassandra King, passed away. Pat came to the low country of our State with his U.S. Marine Corps family and used his life experiences and our South Carolina backdrop and traditions for his acclaimed books. Author of The Boo, The Water is Wide, The Great Santini, The Lords of Discipline, The Prince of Tides, Beach Music, My Losing Season, South of Broad, The Death of Santini and others, Mr. Conroy held a dear place in the hearts of many who knew him personally or through his characters.

A Citadel man, one who "wore the ring," he was immeasurably proud of his adopted home state. One of his most memorable writings from The Prince of Tides states, "To describe our growing up in the low country of South Carolina, I would have to take you to the marsh on a spring day, flush the great blue heron from its silent occupation, scatter marsh hens as we sink to our knees in mud, open you an oyster with a pocketknife and feed it to you from the shell and say, 'There, that taste, that's the taste of my childhood'."
