A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR REVEREND ROBERT HEYWARD, SR., UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AFTER THIRTY YEARS OF EXEMPLARY SERVICE AND TO WISH HIM CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives have learned that Reverend Robert Heyward, Sr., will begin a well-deserved retirement after thirty years as a dedicated pastor and shepherd of the flock; and

Whereas, he will be honored at a retirement celebration to be held at Greater St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston surrounded by family and friends on July 11, 2015; and

Whereas, born in Hollywood, South Carolina, on March 12, 1939, Robert Heyward is the son of the late Reverend Henry and Annabelle Heyward, and he graduated from Baptist Hill High School there; and

Whereas, he and his beloved Richardine Garvin were joined in holy matrimony on October 29, 1960, and in this union of fifty-five years, Reverend and Mrs. Heyward were blessed with five fine children and a host of adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, Robert Heyward graduated from Morris Street School of Theology and began pastoring in 1985. During thirty years of ministry, he has pastored Salem Baptist Church, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, and Grace Chapel Baptist Church; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the years of outstanding ministry that Reverend Heyward has provided to churches in the Charleston community and wish him many years of enjoyment in his well-earned retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Reverend Robert Heyward, Sr., upon the occasion of his retirement after thirty years of exemplary service and wish him continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Robert Heyward, Sr.
