A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR H. WESLEY GORDON, JR., FOR HIS MORE THAN FIFTY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE MURRELLS INLET-GARDEN CITY FIRE DISTRICT BOARD OF DIRECTORS.

Whereas, on June 8, 1966, legislation was enacted to form the Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire District, a joint county fire district spanning portions of Georgetown and Horry counties. Soon thereafter, a group of local citizen-volunteers organized the operation of the district and its services commenced; and

Whereas, H. Wesley Gordon, Jr., is a community leader who saw the need for fire protection in the Murrells Inlet-Garden City area and led efforts to create the fire district; and

Whereas, Mr. Gordon is a founding board member of the fire district and has served on the board for over fifty years; and

Whereas, Mr. Gordon helped deliver the first fire truck to the fire district and served as one of the first volunteer firefighters; and

Whereas, under Mr. Gordon's leadership on the board, the fire district has progressed such that it now has four fire stations, forty-five career emergency responders, and sixteen emergency volunteers who provide cutting-edge fire suppression service, advanced emergency medical care service, and community training in fire education, fire prevention, and the full catalog of American Heart Association classes; and

Whereas, additionally, under Mr. Gordon's leadership on the board, the fire district has achieved one of the best possible ISO Public Protection Classifications, placing the district in the top three percent nationally in fire protection; and

Whereas, in 2016, the Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire District Board recognized Mr. Gordon's outstanding contributions to the fire district for over a half century by dedicating Fire Station Four to Mr. Gordon; and

Whereas, grateful for the legacy of consistent commitment and excellence H. Wesley Gordon, Jr., has bestowed on this great State, the General Assembly takes great pleasure in commending him and wishing him continued success in the days ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor H. Wesley Gordon, Jr., of Georgetown County for his more than fifty years of dedicated service as a member of the Board of Directors of the Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire District and wish him success and fulfillment in all his future endeavors.
