A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO REMEMBER AND CELEBRATE THE LIFE OF BYRON ALLAN EASTMAN, SR., OF RICHLAND COUNTY, AND TO HONOR HIS DEVOTION AND COMMITMENT TO HIS FAMILY, HIS STATE, AND HIS NATION.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were saddened to learn of the death of Byron Allan Eastman, Sr., at the age of seventy-eight on December 29, 2015; and

Whereas, born in Ancon, Canal Zone, Panama, Mr. Eastman served with distinction in various locations with the United States Army for twenty years before retiring with the rank of Staff Sergeant; and

Whereas, a longtime resident of Columbia, he served as a corrections officer with the South Carolina Department of Corrections for twenty years before he retired again; and

Whereas, Mr. Eastman was married to his beloved wife, Delia Poyser Eastman, for fifty years, and together they reared three fine children: Vernell Rogers, Dr. Yvette Gamble, and Byron Eastman, Jr. Their children blessed him with the affection of five grandchildren: Chelsea and Joshua Rogers, Jordan Gamble, and Marley and Mila Eastman; and

Whereas, through the years, Mr. and Mrs. Eastman graciously opened their home to a number of nieces and nephews who lived with them and enjoyed his knowledge of current events and politics and his spirited conversation on a broad spectrum of topics, coupled with his quick wit and engaging humor; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the life and legacy of Byron Eastman and for the example of service and kindness he set for all who knew him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, remember and celebrate the life of Byron Allan Eastman, Sr., of Richland County, and honor his devotion and commitment to his family, his State, and his nation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Byron Allan Eastman, Sr.
