A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE TUESDAY, MARCH 14, 2017, AS "4-H DAY" IN SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO COMMEND MS. CAREY HERNDON, STATE 4-H TEEN COUNCIL PRESIDENT, DR. PAM ARDERN, STATE 4-H PROGRAM LEADER, AND THE 2016-2017 4-H LEADERSHIP TEAM FOR THEIR NUMEROUS ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND FOR THE LEADERSHIP THEY HAVE DEMONSTRATED.

Whereas, 4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship, and life skills; and

Whereas, since 1908, South Carolina 4-H has operated under the land-grant university system in the Clemson Cooperative Extension Service, offering programs to youth ages five to nineteen; and

Whereas, South Carolina 4-H has ninety-two thousand 4-H members the six program areas of Agriculture and Animals; Healthy Lifestyles; Leadership and Citizenship; Natural Resources; Personal Development; and Science, Engineering, and Technology; and

Whereas, under the leadership of advisor Jessica Simpson, outstanding leadership, dedication, and hard work have been demonstrated by the 2016-2017 South Carolina Teen Council members, who are president Carey Herndon, vice president Wilson Pressley, secretary Bentley Pressley, public relations coordinator Geneffer Sweatman, legislative liaison Logan Moore, Midlands representatives Stephanie Aull and Lindsey Scott, and Savannah Valley representative Timneisha Holmes; and

Whereas, the excellent record of accomplishments in citizenship and leadership of Carey Herndon of Bamberg County, Morgan McManus of Florence County, and Micah Metts and Andrew Owens of Saluda County will be recognized in Washington, D. C., at the 2017 National 4-H Conference; and

Whereas, Katherine Ellig of Kershaw County and Allison Harman, Micah Metts, and Andrew Owens of Saluda County have been honored the 2016 4-H Presidential Tray Award winners, which recognize the top four Senior 4-H members who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in 4H leadership, citizenship, and project work; and

Whereas, Ian Adams and Ashlyn Whittemore of Charleston County, La'Terrica Springs of Chester County, Nikole Rivers of Dorchester County, Savanna Hill and Morgan McManus of Florence County, Bailey Morgan of Lexington County, Geneffer Sweatman of Colleton County, and Carrie Trotter of Saluda County were 4-H Project Winners and were recognized at 2016 National 4-H Congress in Atlanta; and

Whereas, Wilson Pressley of Greenville County was declared National Reserve Champion at the 2016 Eastern National 4-H Horse Round-Up, and Elizabeth Easler of Saluda County was selected as a team member of the National 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador Team; and

Whereas, Jeffery Feaster of Fairfield County; T. J. Price, Grey Riley, MacKenzie Riley, and Lindsey Scott of Saluda County; Geneffer Sweatman and Garrett Ulmer of Colleton County; and Ashlyn Whittemore of Charleston County were selected as award winners for Citizenship Washington Focus and attended the 2017 Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D. C. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize Tuesday, March 14, 2017, as "4-H Day" in South Carolina and commend Ms. Carey Herndon, State 4-H Teen Council President, Dr. Pam Ardern, State 4-H Program Leader, and the 2016-2017 4-H Leadership Team for their numerous accomplishments and for the leadership that they have demonstrated.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to the Clemson University Cooperative Extension.
