TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CRADDOCK MORRIS, OWNER AND PUBLISHER OF THE CALHOUN TIMES, UPON THE OCCASION OF ITS FINAL ISSUE AFTER OVER EIGHTY-FIVE YEARS OF CONTINUED PUBLICATION, AND TO WISH MR. MORRIS CONTINUED SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina should pause in their deliberations to express their gratitude to Craddock Morris for his significant contributions to the people of Saint Matthews and Calhoun County; and
Whereas, a family-owned establishment, the Calhoun Times has provided news to the people of Saint Matthews for almost a century. Started in October of 1929 by Craddock's father, this weekly newspaper has been continuously printing for eighty-eight years. This tenure will end January 2017 as the Calhoun Times runs its presses for the final time; and
Whereas, Craddock graduated from The Citadel in 1950 and immediately began taking journalism courses at the University of South Carolina to prepare himself to join his father in the world of print media. In 1953, Craddock started his career at the Calhoun Times. Three short years later he became the editor and publisher; and
Whereas, while a student at The Citadel, Craddock met the love of his life, his wife Patricia Martin Morris. They spent many happy years together and were blessed with two children, Edwin and Anne. Edwin has been Craddock's right hand at the paper since 1996; and
Whereas, on the occasion of his retirement, Craddock Morris's friends and family will gather to honor him at a celebratory event to be held February 5, 2017. Craddock's joy in giving to his community is evidenced by his statement "It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of Calhoun County for all of these years"; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the years of dedication that Craddock has devoted to the community of Saint Matthews and wish him many years of enjoyment in his well-earned retirement; and
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Craddock Morris owner and publisher of the Calhoun Times upon the occasion of its final issue after over eighty-five years of continued publication, and wish Mr. Morris continued success and happiness in all his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Craddock Morris.
