A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR ROBERT FRANCIS SMITH, FOUNDER OF THE LITTLE GREEN APPLES PROJECT, FOR HIS MANY REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENTS.

Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives should pause in their deliberations to commend Robert Francis Smith for all the many good works to which he has dedicated his life; and

Whereas, despite Robert Smith's disability of total blindness, he is an example and inspiration to so many for his intentional acts of kindness, his love for baseball, and his continued achievements which defy his disability; and

Whereas, he spent countless hours learning how to pitch and throw a baseball so he could share his talents on Major and Minor League baseball fields across the country and throughout the great State of South Carolina; and

Whereas, in events throughout South Carolina and the nation, Mr. Smith demonstrates his patriotic commitment by singing America's favorite love song, our national anthem; and

Whereas, as an entrepreneur, he created a game called Toss to Target Game Towel, to inspire others who face daily challenges and disabilities that anything is possible through hard work and imagination; and

Whereas, Robert Smith's father, O. C. Smith, died on November 23, 2001, and was posthumously elected to the Carolina Beach Music Awards (CBMA) Hall of Fame and was honored by Governor Jim Hodges, who declared June 21, 2002, as "O. C. Smith Day" in South Carolina. His father also wrote a book, Little Green Apples: God Really Did Make Them, with James Shaw that was published after his death; and

Whereas, Robert Smith founded the Little Green Apples Project to encourage others to do intentional acts of kindness for people from all walks of life; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives salutes the efforts of Robert Smith to inspire and motivate both people with and people without disabling challenges to reach for their dreams, and the members applaud his quest for making intentional acts of kindness a reality for countless others and ask all our citizens to join him in doing the same. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Robert Francis Smith, founder of the Little Green Apples Project, for his many remarkable achievements.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Robert Francis Smith.
