TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE DILLON CHRISTIAN SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR A STELLAR SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2017 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Dillon Christian football team took top honors at the South Carolina Independent School Association (SCISA) state competition held at Benedict College in Columbia on November 18, 2017; and
Whereas, to the cheers of their exuberant fans, the Dillon Christian School Warriors rushed and pounded their way to defeat the Pee Dee Academy Golden Eagles 40-21 and reclaim their 2016 title with an 11-2 record for the season; and
Whereas, the Dillon Warriors had scored two touchdowns and one extra point with six and a half minutes left in the first quarter, but Pee Dee closed the gap to 13-7 before the quarter ended; and
Whereas, by the time the two teams headed to the lockers for halftime, Dillon had broadened the lead to 20-7, but by the end of the third quarter, the Golden Eagles had remained scoreless for two quarters, and the score stood at 34-7; and
Whereas, Pee Dee answered with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter but could not overcome the game-long deficit that the Warriors had dished out, and Dillon took the trophy with a 40-21 victory; and
Whereas, the Warriors carried off the team's fourth state championship trophy in just twelve years of the school's football program; and
Whereas, stand-out players for the Warriors' season included Diaz Alexander, Montez Alford, Evan Paul, and Jackson Wolfe all of whom were named to both SCISA All-State and SCISA All-Star teams, while Azeon Brown, Ian Patterson, and John Rourke were named to SCISA All-State and Samuel Coleman and Garret Collins were named to SCISA All-Star; and
Whereas, in a sport that demands strength, expertise, and determination, Head Coach Christian Wolfe, honored as the SCISA 1A Football Coach of the Year, and his skilled coaching staff maximized their own athletic ability and training to forge a championship-caliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable through life both on and off the gridiron; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives value the pride and recognition that the Dillon Christian football players have brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their continued achievements in the days to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Dillon Christian School varsity football team, coaches, and school officials for a stellar season and congratulate them for winning the 2017 South Carolina Independent School Association Class 1A State Championship title.
