TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE TRAGIC PASSING OF JASON GREGORY HARRIS AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Spartanburg Master Police Officer Jason Gregory Harris on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the untimely age of thirty-nine. An extraordinary officer and fallen hero, he was thrown from his motorcycle in an accident after responding to help other officers at the scene of a burglary; and
Whereas, a native of Duncan, South Carolina, Jason was born May 10, 1977 to Susan Farmer Harris and the late Timothy Bratton Harris; and
Whereas, Jason was a twelve-year veteran of the Spartanburg Police Department. He was a member of the SWAT team, motorcycle unit, K-9 tracking team, downtown bicycle unit, and housing complex team and was a gang investigator. In 2011, he was shot in the hip while going into an apartment to serve a warrant with a tactical team; and
Whereas, Jason was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Charles Farmer, and paternal grandparents, E. P. and Sarah Harris; and
Whereas, Jason leaves to cherish his memories his wife of sixteen years, Amanda Roberts Harris; children, Maddyson Harris, Samantha Harris, and Alex Harris; mother, Susan Farmer Harris; brothers, Chris (Jennifer) Harris, Adam (Hope) Harris, and Josh (Crissy) Harris; nieces and nephews, Hunter Harris, Caitlin Harris, Stephen Harris, Bratton Harris, and Ellis Harris; maternal grandmother, Shirley Farmer; and his Great Dane, "Brutus." He will be missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Jason Gregory Harris and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Amanda Roberts Harris.
