A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE ZETA PHI BETA SORORITY, INC., FOR ITS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, it is altogether fitting and proper that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives should pause in their deliberations to honor the state chapters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, an organization with an ongoing commitment to the welfare of the citizens of this great State; and

Whereas, founded in 1920 on the campus of Howard University by five collegiate women, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., in South Carolina has forty-seven chapters, twelve Zeta Amicae Auxiliaries, and fifteen Youth Affiliate Groups with over a thousand women and youth members in the State; and

Whereas, the South Carolina chapters of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., have gathered at the State House for twelve years to bring recognition and awareness of the service that the organization renders to the State; and

Whereas, in an organization intended to build community awareness and action, Zeta members have donated two hundred eighty-five wigs as part of a cancer awareness initiative and money for homes for children in the Bahamas and for the women veterans' Rock Campaign; and

Whereas, South Carolina Zetas provide assistance for their fellow citizens through the state's Zetas Helping Other People Excel (Zeta-HOPE) program and scholarships through the South Carolina License Tag program; and

Whereas, the state Zeta Phi Beta Sorority members also participate in national Zeta programs that include the Elder Care Initiative to provide education and awareness about preparing for senior years in life; the Stork's Nest, a community-based program to promote prenatal health for low-income pregnant women; March of Dimes March for Babies walks; Adopt-A-School, a program to identify low-performing schools and to provide assistance to enhance educational experiences, increase test scores, and improve grades; and

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives, values of the ongoing commitment of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., to care for the welfare of the citizens of the Palmetto State and wishes the members continued success in all their ventures. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., for its many years of dedicated service to the citizens of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
