WHEREAS, R. C. Gainey, Treasurer for Kershaw County, died in January, 1997, and there now exists a vacancy in that office; and

WHEREAS, the Governor is authorized to appoint a Treasurer in the event of a vacancy pursuant to Code of Laws of South Carolina (1976), as amended, Section 17-5-50 and Section 4-11-20; and

WHEREAS, Stephen D. Vincent, 1354-A Fort Jackson Rd. Lugoff, SC 29078, is a fit and proper person to serve as Treasurer and is an elector of Kershaw County.

NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Statutes of this State, I hereby direct that Stephen D. Vincent shall be appointed as Treasurer for Kershaw County, effective on the date of the execution of this Executive Order until the expiration of the term on June 30, 1999, and until a successor is elected and qualified.
