Goals, Spending, and Performance of Agency
Agency provides this as the only study it is aware of which identifies potential cost savings if there were additional attorneys available to represent indigent defendants. This is York County Circuit Public Defender Office’s five year study of cost savings associated with having a public defender assigned to address client cases in the county jail.
The Commission on Indigent Defense and Prosecution Coordination Commission are required, starting in 2016-17, to provide detailed expenditure reports and associated revenue streams from the previous year for each individual circuit. Revenue streams are to include, but not be limited to, state funds, local funds, federal funds, and also nongovernmental sources of funds. (See Proviso 117.110, General Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2016-17 and Proviso 117.109, General Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2017-18).
