AN ACT TO AMEND ACT 90 OF 1959, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE BEAUFORT COUNTY
HIGHER EDUCATION COMMISSION SO AS TO INCREASE THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE COMMISSION
FROM FIVE TO SEVEN MEMBERS.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
Higher Education Commission created
SECTION 1. Section 1 of Act 90 of 1959, as last amended by Act 556 of 1960, is
amended to read:
"Section 1. There is created the Beaufort County Higher Education
Commission. The commission is composed of seven members who are appointed by the
Governor upon the recommendation of a majority of the members of the Beaufort
County Legislative Delegation. The members of the commission shall serve for a
term of two years or until their successors have been appointed and qualified.
Not more than two weeks after its appointment the commission shall meet and elect
a chairman and a secretary from among its membership, and organize further as it
may desire. The commission may meet at such times as it considers necessary, the
meetings to be called by the chairman, or upon the written request of three of
its members."
Additional members
SECTION 2. The two additional members provided for under the provisions of this
act must be appointed as soon as is practicable after the effective date of this
act. They shall serve for terms of two years commencing with the date of their
appointments.
Time effective
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon approval by the Governor. |
