S*675 Session 109 (1991-1992)
S*0675 Concurrent Resolution, By Giese
A Concurrent Resolution expressing the appreciation of the members of the
General Assembly to Mr. Robert "Bobby" F. Morel of Columbia for his heroic
assistance to a Charlotte policeman involved in a shoot-out with a burglary
suspect.
02/19/91 Senate Introduced, adopted, sent to House SJ-6
02/20/91 House Introduced, adopted, returned with concurrence
A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO MR. ROBERT "BOBBY" F.
MOREL OF COLUMBIA FOR HIS HEROIC ASSISTANCE TO A
CHARLOTTE POLICEMAN INVOLVED IN A SHOOT-OUT WITH
A BURGLARY SUSPECT.
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were amazed at the
actions of Columbia resident Mr. Bobby Morel in assisting a Charlotte,
North Carolina, police officer involved in a shoot-out last October 20,
1990; and
Whereas, in the early morning hours of that date Mr. Morel was driving
down a Charlotte street and witnessed a shoot-out between a Charlotte,
North Carolina, policeman and a burglary suspect, witnessing first the
policeman being shot by the suspect and then seeing the policeman as
he fell wound the suspect; and
Whereas, while driving by this shocking spectacle, Mr. Morel first
thought to drive on and call 911 at another location, but instead turned
his car around and drove his car between the two wounded men where
he seized the forty-four calibre magnum pistol of the suspect and
summoned aid on the downed policeman's car radio; and
Whereas, the policeman, Officer Larry Wilson, was severely wounded
but is recouperating and the burglary suspect subsequently died of his
wounds, giving full evidence of the ferocity of the engagement; and
Whereas, Mr. Morel's fast action in going to the aid of the Charlotte
police officer brought him recognition by the City of Charlotte in a
ceremony at Charlotte City Hall; and
Whereas, the producers of the television show Rescue 911 have
informed Mr. Morel that they plan to do a segment on the show
featuring his heroic act during the filming of which Charlotte firemen
and policemen plan to honor Mr. Morel at a banquet; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the General Assembly to
add their appreciation to the voices of those who have already honored
Mr. Bobby Morel and in so doing call to attention an unselfish act,
fraught with danger to assist one of those whose life is regularly on the
line for his community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly express appreciation to Mr.
Robert "Bobby" F. Morel of Columbia for his heroic
assistance to a Charlotte policeman involved in a shoot-out with a
burglary suspect.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr.
Morel.
