heartfelt sympathy to his family and his friends.

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE DEEPEST SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY AT THE DEATH OF RICHARD
LLOYD OF LEE COUNTY AND EXTENDING HEARTFELT
SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND HIS FRIENDS.
Whereas, Richard Lloyd of Lee County died on Saturday, February 2,
1991; and
Whereas, Mr. Lloyd was an outspoken community leader who worked
for civil rights in Lee County and supported the progression of black
people as well as people in general; and
Whereas, he was the first to file a lawsuit to fight in court for single
member districts and although the initial battle was lost, his groundwork
helped People for Progress to reach success in that arena; and
Whereas, Mr. Lloyd's actions in instituting single member districts in
Lee County during the 1970's gave blacks a chance to be elected to local
public offices; and
Whereas, he also worked to provide rural water service through Cassatt
Water Company; and
Whereas, Mr. Lloyd was a member in many other community and civic
organizations, including the West Lee Elementary School PTA, and was
a member of the trustee board of Spring Hill United Methodist Church;
and
Whereas, he is survived by his wife and eleven children, as well as many
brothers, sisters, grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly express their deepest sorrow at the death of
Richard Lloyd of Lee County and extend heartfelt sympathy to his
family and his friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his
wife, Louise Bradshaw Lloyd.
