A Concurrent Resolution expressing the sorrow of the members of the General

known conservationist whose donations of land in the lowcountry gave impetus
to the ACE Basin initiative in the State, and extending sympathy to his family
and many friends.

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY AT THE DEATH OF GAYLORD
DONNELLEY OF COLLETON COUNTY, NATIONALLY KNOWN
CONSERVATIONIST WHOSE DONATIONS OF LAND IN THE
LOWCOUNTRY GAVE IMPETUS TO THE ACE BASIN
INITIATIVE IN THE STATE, AND EXTENDING SYMPATHY TO
HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, Gaylord Donnelley of Colleton County died Sunday, April 19,
1992, at his home on Ashepoo Plantation at the age of eighty-one; and
Whereas, Mr. Donnelley's donations of lands in the Lowcountry sparked
the ACE Basin initiative in South Carolina; and
Whereas, he was one of the leading conservationists in the nation and an
outstanding individual in many ways; and
Whereas, since 1986, he had donated nearly six thousand six hundred
acres to the ACE Basin preserve and placed permanent conservation
easements on the rest of Ashepoo Plantation -- nearly ten thousand
acres; and
Whereas, we want the members of his family and his friends to know
that they are uppermost in our thoughts and have our deepest sympathy.
Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South
Carolina, by this resolution, express sorrow at the death of Gaylord
Donnelley of Colleton County and extend sympathy to his family and
many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
family of Mr. Donnelley.
