A Concurrent Resolution to commend the City of Hartsville on the occasion of
its annual Christmas in April community event where homes of the economically
disadvantaged are repaired in a common effort to help people in need and to
commend each of the businesses, churches, civic groups, and individuals who
donate their time, talents, and money to this worthy project.

A CONCURRENT
RESOLUTION
TO COMMEND THE CITY OF HARTSVILLE ON THE OCCASION
OF ITS ANNUAL CHRISTMAS IN APRIL COMMUNITY EVENT
WHERE HOMES OF THE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED
ARE REPAIRED IN A COMMON EFFORT TO HELP PEOPLE IN
NEED AND TO COMMEND EACH OF THE BUSINESSES,
CHURCHES, CIVIC GROUPS, AND INDIVIDUALS WHO DONATE
THEIR TIME, TALENTS, AND MONEY TO THIS WORTHY
PROJECT.
Whereas, Christmas in April in Hartsville which will be held this year
on April 20, 1991, is an annual one-day massive effort to repair homes
of the poor, elderly and handicapped, and unites people of all faiths and
walks of life in a common effort to help people in need; and
Whereas, the City of Hartsville has achieved national acclaim as a leader
in the Christmas in April effort in the two years since this outstanding
program began in Hartsville. As a result of its efforts, Time magazine in
its December 17, 1990, edition featured Hartsville's Christmas in April
program; and
Whereas, in April, 1989, over eight hundred volunteers repaired twenty-eight homes in Hartsville's Howard Street neighborhood. In April, 1990,
over one thousand five hundred workers fixed thirty-eight houses in the
Alphabet Street area off Society Avenue; and
Whereas, the program is sponsored locally by the Greater Hartsville
Chamber of Commerce, and Hartsville area businesses, churches, and
civic groups provide the volunteers who coordinate the project and do
all repair work; and
Whereas, the 1991 Christmas in April is scheduled for Saturday, April
20. Homes in Hartsville's Oakdale section and in a second area off South
Eighth Street will be targeted for repair; and
Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution,
would like to publicly recognize and commend this fine South Carolina
city and the countless volunteers involved with this project on the
occasion of the upcoming 1991 Christmas in April effort and for all that
they have accomplished in past efforts. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly hereby commend the City
of Hartsville on the occasion of its annual Christmas in April community
event where homes of the economically disadvantaged are repaired in a
common effort to help people in need and further commend each of the
businesses, churches, civic groups, and individuals who donate their
time, talents, and money to this worthy project.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the
Mayor of Hartsville.
